And the girls were on hand for the SFV Junior Derby‘s Fundraiser at the Audrey K boutique in Burbank CA on Saturday.

Allisyn Arm and Audrey Whitby - SFV Junior Derby Fundraiser

You should have seen them, literally skatting up and down the blocks selling raffle tickets. Allisyn was a real pro…

  • Comic Con 2012 Overview

Alright, so this past week was my first ever trip to San Diego Comic Con.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

I’ve talked about it a lot before, but never could get tickets/passes/ etc.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

Well, this year they let me in and I wanted to share a few things from the floor that I found interesting.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

I was surprised by how big of a presence Lego had on the floor. Until I stopped to think about all the Marvel, Star Wars, etc tie-ins they have.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

Nick was there in a big way pushing the new animated shows mostly…

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

    … and I saw the Penguins (#TeamBobAndMArk)

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

But I did get a climple of Victorious on their big screen as well.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

Disney didn’t have much of a presence on the floor, besides the art of Frankenweenie booth.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

ABC had a little booth for some new show.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

Plus all the Marvel stuff of course.

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

I also liked the Bond boat. Looking forward to seeing that new film. 🙂

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

I was particularly surprised to see a huge banner for Danielle Panabaker’s movie Piranha 3DD. Like… six theaters showed it nationwide. :/

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

Oh, and I saw something truely terrifying that will haunt my dreams for weeks…

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

… the horror. I also met the creator of the new MLP, but that’s another story for my next post. 🙂

    Comic Con 2012 Overview

As always you’ll find more of my photos from the convention floor in the gallery by clicking on any photo above.

  • Alyson Stoner – Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

Yeah, I have a bit of a crush on Alyson Stoner.

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

    But can ya blame me?

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

Frequent readers will probably remember that I met her last year at the D23 Expo.

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

Well, she was at Comic Con this past weekend and of course I had to go see her.

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

… and Vincent. He’s a pretty cool dude too, but mostly Alyson. 🙂

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

I even got a pic with her this year!

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

And check out the new autographs. This pic is gonna look good on my wall. 🙂 (Original photo is from this post.)

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

Oh, and the Where’s Perry Poster? How cool is this?

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

    It’s double-sided to boot. 🙂

Alyson Stoner - Comic-Con 2012 Meet and Greet

It is a bit of a shame Alyson was sitting pretty much the entire time though. That was a very leggy outfit.

  • First Impressions of Cars Land

On Saturday June 23rd I made my first visit to the newly opened Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure park.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

It’s a big place! We’ve been peaking in on it from this angle for years durring the construction…

    First Impressions of Cars Land

… But to stand at the other end and look back really is something to see.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

The view of Grizzly Peak from Cars Land is quite impressive. It never really stuck me as a park icon before but now it really seems to stand out.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

I started with Luigi’s Flying Tires – a really great addition to the park.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

The line was structured in such a way that you could observe several complete ride cycles before riding.

That made it a lot easier, I thought, to get the hand of it when actually riding.

This ride is a winner. I hope it lasts a lot longer than it’s predecessor.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

Radiator Springs Racers has been described as a “Super E Ticket” and I think that description fits.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

The line winds through Stanley’s Oasis – the orginal Radiator Springs and the line really adds a lot to the story of the ride itself.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

I actually saw a certain redheaded Nickelodeon actress in line for this ride, but that’s another story for another site.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

The ride starts as a slow to medium paced dark ride before going two cars wide for the race.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

Here, just have a look for yourself…

And finally, there was Matter’s Junkyard Jamboree.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

Definately the least impressive of the three rides, but that’s grading on a serious curve.

Those cars have some serious “whip” to them! I was trying to hold my camera still for the onride video, but it really threw me around quite a bit.

I’ll save my thoughts on the rest of the Park for another post, but I must say that they did a great job with this new addition.

    First Impressions of Cars Land

I have 130 orginal photos from around Cars Land in the gallery. Please click on any still image in this post to see the rest of the set.

  • Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

It’s hard to believe it’s really been ten years since Kim Possible premiered in the summer of 2002. It was a different time, the country was still realing from the 9/11 attacks and we need a hero. She came to us in the form of an animated cheerleader and frequently saved the world. “No Big.”

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

The party was held at The Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society Club House and hosted by The C/FO The Cartoon Fantasy Organization. We started with a look at the early days of the show…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Epf3Gb-cMg

… including the screening of many old promos and interstitials on the “big screen” in the main room.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

As many no doubt know, the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure was removed from EPCOT last month. The news of this is what had prompted my trip to WDW last month.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

It was fitting, in light of this, for Tony (lord_victorino) and Gustav (redquill) to share some of their experiences at the KPWSA two years ago. We had limited time so we took a vote and my favorite was the clearcut winner: “Japan – The Baby Bebe”

Oh, and Tony had a nice stand up routine for us as well.

This brought us to the main event: the VIP Pannel Q&A session.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

From left to right, our honored guest were…

Kurt Weldon – Kim Possible Writer / Line Producer
Tracy Berna – Kim Possible Writer
Brian Swenlin – Kim Possible Writer / Story Editor
Chris Bailey – Kim Possible Season 1 Producer / Director
Nicole Dubuc – Kim Possible Writer
Thomas Hart – Kim Possible Writer / Story Editor

… and here is the complete video of the hour long Q&A session!

There were many good stories recounted by the crew. My favorite had to do with how Kurt got in trouble for talking to Consumer Products. Oh, and we still don’t know what happened on Tuedsay, but the “pointy” issue was laid to rest at last. 😉

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

    And then there was cake.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

… our VIPs were a bit impatient as this obviously posed photo shows. 😉

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

It was a great honor for me to get to meet Chris Bailey for the first time. Seeing as how it was the 10th aniversary, it was very apropriate and fitting to have his insights into the origin of the series and the characters.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

I’m also a bit excited that I was able to get my KP season one boxsets (both US and DE versions) autographed along with my “save the world kit” which had previously been signed by Bob Schooley and is now back in it’s display case.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

Along with, ironically enough, the first new bit of licenced KP merchndise to be released in years. Is this proof that some at Disney still see the potential of the franchise? Only time will tell.

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

Again, my thanks to the VIPs for coming out. My thanks to Don Spears for all his work on the orginal Kimvention…

    Kim Possible 10th Anniversary Party

… and of course Dave, the aforementioned Tony and Gustav for all the work that went into this event, and everyone else who came out.

  • Demi Lovato at the San Diego County Fair

So… I went to see Demi Lovato at the San Diego County Fair on Tuesday (June 12th 2012).

Demi Lovato at the San Diego County Fair

I’m so not used to seeing Demi as a blonde. Don’t get me wrong, she looked very nice all the same, but it does take some getting used to.

Demi Lovato at the San Diego County Fair

Miss Lovato played a fairly long show – just over an hour and without that much of a gap between songs. She focused mostly on her new album, but she played all the old singles (Get Back, La La Land, Remember December, etc.) too.

She also inhaled a bug and nearly choked to death (not really) during “Skyscraper.”

Although I must say, she totally toned down the choreography. “Who’s that Boy” in particular felt less than spectacular.

I guess part of that was so she could do a longer show, but I missed the sexiness of the September show.

  • Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

A few weeks ago, Allie De Berry and Sierra McCormick tweeted that they would be having a meet and greet at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA today.

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

You might recognize both girls from Disney Channel’s A.N.T. Farm. Allie DeBerry plays Paisley the not-so-smart mean girl and Sierra McCormick plays Olive the super-smart bestfriend of the main chracter.

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

I met most of the ANT Farm cast at the D23 Expo, including Sierra.

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

But I hadn’t ever met Allie, and it seemed like a great opportunity to do just that!

    She’s a super-sweet girl.

She was nice enough to sign the picture I brought.

And I gave her a Save Disney Shows bracelet. 🙂

The anoying thing is that there were seperate lines for both girls.

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

I’ve already met Sierra, but it seemed like a shame to leave this picture half-signed…

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

… and I thought I should give Sierra a SDS bracelet too. So, I sucked it up and waited in line for 45 minutes.

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

She remembered the story about my crazy friend from the last time I saw her. xD

Allie DeBerry and Sierra McCormick Meet and Greet

I guess that’s the full report. It was a great local event. 🙂

  • My Walt Disney World Report (Part 1)

This is a long story, and not one that will be recounted in a single blog post at that, but as with most things it’s probably best to start at the beginning, a bit closer to home…

    Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle

As frequent readers already know, and as should be apparent by the shear existence of this site, I have a long standing love affair with Disneyland. And for the past few years, as much as I’ve loved my park, I have wanted to go and see Walt Disney World for myself.

    Walt Disney World

Well, last week I finally did it. I had 72 hours over four days in Florida to see as much as I possibly could. I started late in the day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Formerly Disney MGM Studios).

    Walt Disney World

DHS reminded me a lot of Disney’s California Adventure – and I don’t mean that in a particularly good way. To be fair, I didn’t get to see three of the big shows, Beauty and the Best, Indiana Jones, and Lights Motor Action, but there was more to it than that. I started with their tram tour which was a disappointment to put it mildly. Had I not been familiar with the Universal Studios Hollywood Tram Tour I might have been more impressed, but to put it simply, Catastrophe Canyon simply pails in comparison to Universal’s Earthquake.

    Walt Disney World

The big name attractions like Star Tours, Toy Story Mania, and Tower of Terror all also exist in CA. The Florida versions are a little different, such as the amazing outdoor queue are of Star Tours, but the rides are basically all the same. One interesting thing I saw late in the day was over where they did the Phineas and Ferb stage show…

    Walt Disney World

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45CfgCq2TyY

… It’s Ducky Momo! And yes, I just had to get a picture.

    Walt Disney World

The next day took me to the Magic Kingdom. The 15 extra years of technology, design, and just experience in general really show at this park. The park is simply beautiful and with a few exceptions phenomenally well designed.

    Walt Disney World

While there are many similarities between Disneyland park and the Magic Kingdom, there are a lot of differences too. the Fantacyland dark rides look similar on the surface, but are vastly different in reality. Peter Pan in particular gained a lot from improved technology and a continually moving loading/unloading area. Why don’t we have that here? The MK version of Snow White is a similar success story; such a shame it’s closing permanently as part of the New Fantacyland project.

    Walt Disney World

But it’s not all smiles – the MK version of it’s a Small World doesn’t deserve to share the same name as the Disneyland Version. In Florida, it really is a small, small world. Pirates is another ride that didn’t transfer well. Despite a very cool queue area and exterior space, the ride itself is seriously abridged and lacks much of the charm of the original. With both it’s as if they said they decided it would be more efficient to create shorter rides in an attempt to push more people through.

    Walt Disney World

But on the flip side, there is the Jungle Cruise. A Disneyland favorite of mine that they generally improved upon in Florida. The MK version is longer, more complex, and generally structured better. Despite my limited time, I made sure to ride this one twice: one in the daytime and once after sundown.

    Walt Disney World

I also wanted to take a moment to discuss Tom Sawyer’s Island. At Disneyland, the island has been “enhanced” to be Pirate’s Lair, but the WDW version appears largely untouched. To my great surprise I found Fort Langhorn, the MK equivalent of Disneyland’s Fort Wilderness, with it’s gates wide open. The DL fort has been closed for half a decade due to “safety concerns” and has long been one of the places I have longed to return to.

    Walt Disney World

It’s not even so much that the fort is that exciting, but it’s one of a few early memories I have of the park from when I was little, and it was quite amazing to explore the new fort. I don’t know how similar the two forts are, but MK’s Fort Langhorn does include the thing I remember most strongly – the guns on the upper levels that “shoot” out at the boats in the river.

    Walt Disney World

Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland probably shares the least in common with it’s California Cousin. The peoplemover still runs here and adds a lot of motion and activity to the land, which is not at all cramped like Disneyland’s version. The Stitch attraction… is a disappointment. Stitch looks so fake and I appreciated the pre-show, but the actual show? Not so much. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor was quite well done – the CDA isn’t the Child Detection Agency anymore, now they’re the Comedy Detection Agency! xD

    Walt Disney World

MK’s Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has much in common with DL’s Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, but the later has benefited greatly from the experience of the former. The “guns” in Space Ranger Spin are attached to the cars and have very limited movement making Astro Blasters a much superior play experience. But at the same time, the two are different rides with different layouts and visual gags and it’s well worth the time to experience both. Oh, and watch out for Zurg.

    Walt Disney World

The Magic Kindom also has one very unique experience that has no equivalent at the Disneyland Resort, at least, not yet. I am referring to Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, a unique interactive role-playing game where guests are recruited to become sorcerers and help Merlin defeat a breadth of Disney Villains intent of taking over the Magic Kingdom. This game gets very addicting, very fast.

    Walt Disney World

Speaking of interactive games, that brings us to the reason why I made the trip when I did. Today, May 18th, is the very last day for the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure. I just had to get there and experience the attraction while I still could. Phineas and Ferb are set to replace KP in the park later this year.

    Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure

The attraction itself really feels like KP. The banter is right on, and I think they had most if not all of the original voices. It took some four hours through the heat and the rain, but I eventually manged to complete all seven adventures, battling Duff Killigan, Senior Senor Sr & Jr, The Killer BeBes, Professor Dementor, Monkey Fist, Camille Leon, and of course Shego and Dr. Drakken. It really is bittersweet to see what they were able to do just for it to be gone forever after today.

    Walt Disney World

As you can probably guess, the KP attraction took a huge bite out of my day at EPCOT. I had a good portion of time at the start of my day to explore Future World, including Spacehip Earth, Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Mission Space, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, and Living with the Land. All of which are very well done and impressive attractions (especially Spaceship Earth) with the exception of Nemo. I’d rather ride the Nemo Subs at Disneyland. Innoventions was generally uninteresting, much like it’s west coast counterpart.

    Walt Disney World

World Showcase is huge and unlike anything I’ve seen before. Unfortunately, due to my limited time and the fact that the KP game play device would “lock” if you tried to take a break between games, I was unable to thoroughly explore World Showcase the way I would have liked. I saw much of it during the game, but I more or less had to skip over lands like Morocco that didn’t have KP adventures built into them. I was fortunately able to catch the second to last showing of the day of The American Adventure, the most interesting and well structured Audio Animatronics stage show I believe I have ever seen.

    Walt Disney World

I don’t know when or if I’ll be able to return to the parks, but EPCOT is definitely up on top of my to see list. I was tempted to return on my fourth (half) day, but that day was set aside for the last park – Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

    Walt Disney World

The keynote attraction of Animal Kingdom has to be the Safari Ride. While not entirely unlike the Safari caravan’s of the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park (I refuse to call it the “Safari Park” official rename or not) there is definitely classic Disney storytelling on display. Oh, and we basically got attacked by a Giraffe. xD

    Walt Disney World

I was actually a bit worried about being in the actual exhibit with the rhinos, but I guess they’re used to it. That was quite impressive in retrospect.

    Walt Disney World

The Lion King and Finding Nemo shows were also quite impressive in their own ways. Festival of the Lion King looked a little cheap, but it was fun. Besides, who am I to complain about cute girls in skintight animal print costumes? xD Nemo seemed a little long, and the puppetry seemed a bit cheesy at times, but it was a fun well organized show.

    Walt Disney World

I didn’t do Expedition Everest, if you were wondering. Roller coasters just aren’t my thing. The mountain sure looked impressive though. The Tree of life on the other hand… it just looked so fake. Cool yes, but I dunno, I expected more.

    Walt Disney World

Dinosaur was the only real disappointment with the park, though. I had expected something like Indiana Jones at Disneyland, except you know, with dinosaurs. Instead I got a jerky dark ride with dinosaur heads popping out at me. I guess it was budgetary restrictions, but there was just so much wasted potential with this ride. I had gotten a fast pass before getting in the standby line so I could ride it twice and well… once was enough.

    Walt Disney World

And that concludes my trip. But before I wrap up this blog post, one more short story I wanted to share. On the bus ride back to the Airport, Disney showed a brief video advertising some of their other projects and offering some handy airport tips. At one point in the video, Mickey bounds off the bus at the airport and exclaims “Next stop, Disneyland!” which at the time, I found absolutely hilarious.
